This month, get to know Aurora Seppala, our beloved server of more than 7 years for our WINspired breakfast events at the beautiful Downtowner Woodfire Grill (where we’ve been meeting for over 10 years!).
Do you remember your first impression of WIN?
I absolutely LOVE waiting on you ladies!!!
I have met so many wonderful and incredible STRONG, MOTIVATED and EMPOWERED WOMEN!!! I love the spirit and the drive that WIN has and goals to make their dreams come true. I think we have come a long way from when I was first introduced to WIN and I always look forward to the second Tuesday of every month! It’s a thriving force of women and it’s a fun experience to be a part of it!
What would you most like us to know about you?
I have been working at the Downtowner for 9 years and have been the server for WIN for 7 of those years. I have an almost 11 year old son. My mom is from the Philippines (you would love her she’s hilarious) and my dad is 100% Finlander from Cloquet, MN. I love the outdoors almost as much as I love makeup. I always plan ahead. I love finding a good sale and rarely ever pay full price for anything. I also sell DoTERRA oils if anyone ever needs any. I love to cook! I love grocery shopping and mostly buy organic. I love the farmers market and visiting small towns in MN. I’m a true Minnesotan – winter is my favorite season! I have a cat whom I love named Hercules. I have a lot of tattoos.
I love that my hours have been kind and flexible to a single mother of one. I was able to stay focused on my son, my church by not having to work on Sunday, I LOVE our coffee at the Downtowner and of course, the good quality food. I can’t forget to mention THE CUSTOMERS ARE THE BEST PART of my day!! I love that it’s a fast paced environment where I stay active. Tips are sweet.
What do you most appreciate most about the 2nd Tuesday events when we get to see you?
Well, it’s a guaranteed party which being a server we depend on your business. Also, it’s fun and interesting to see who is in the business spotlight each month.
Well, now that my son is older I would like to focus on a career for the future. I have plans to go to college to hopefully find a career in something I like that will me pay well. I figure the time is now! I have a full and blessed life. I’ve traveled some with my son but would always love to travel more. There are so many places I haven’t been!
As a server, you meet new people all of the time. What helps you start a conversation?
People always talk about the weather – it’s an icebreaker! I’m not much of a getting to know people personally at work only because I try to stay professional and just aid in others having an enjoyable meal with their guests. But if they want to talk..GREAT!
Do you have a particular business milestone or achievement of which you are especially proud?
Yes, last year I drove my son all the way to Yellowstone National Park we did the whole South Dakota part as well. We camped out there in Yellowstone for two nights, I drove over 3,000 miles all on my own with my son and made it back in a week! That was a lot of driving!! Not many moms I know that would do that with their child just to do it..!
Do you have a networking success story you’d like to share?
I helped my friend write an essay to Dawn Stevens that landed her on the news!
Interesting fact: I am on no form of social media, believe it or not!
Is there anything else you’d like to tell the women of WIN?
This was fun! Thank you WIN for being a positive influence in my life! It’s always a pleasure to see you and what you are wearing also! (I’m secretly shopping based on many of your styles:) I enjoy waiting on you and accommodating to your coffee requests and hospitality needs!
Until we meet again,
PS: Thanks to Lisa Venticinque Photography for the wonderful photos of Aurora!
